Zinadine Zidane’s side proved too powerful for Juventus,
with Cristiano scoring twice and Casemiro adding another and Segio Asensio
added a fourth as they dispatched the Italian champions 4-1.
Mario Mandzukic equalized in the 27th minute for
Juventus with a spectacular overhead kick that will live long in the memory but
Madrid dominated the second half which denied Juventus a Champions league
title.
Madrid became the first team in the champions league era to
successfully defend the trophy with their sixth triumph in the competition- and
12th when you include it in its former guise of the European Cup-
three of those victories came in the last four years.
Juventus finished the match with 10-men team because Juan Cuadrado
was dismissed in the closing stages for clashing with Sergio Ramos.
Los Blancos were given a rougher ride last season, when they
edged Athletico Madrdid on penalties to claim their 11th European
Cup title, and they had have had to wait only a year to secure their 12th.
The last time any team won successive European Cups was
Arrigo Sacchi’s AC Milan, who won the competition in 1989 and 1990.
