The dynamic Nigerian hip hop industry has produced some of the most celebrated artists out of Africa. From street-hop, to classic hip hop tunes, all the way to our beloved indigenous artists, we have produced some of the most iconic albums of the industry. Let’s take a look at some of Vibe‘s favourite rap albums.

1. MI- Talk About It

Mr Incredible is one of the most acclaimed rappers in Nigeria and his album Talk About It shows just how much of a rap god MI is. The album also introduced a host of new talented acts to the world. Evergreen tracks like ‘Anoti’ and ‘Safe’ made Talk About it a classic.

2. Reminisce- Book of Rap Stories

The uber-talented Baba Hafusa dropped Book of Rap Stories in 2012. The album gave a whole new dimension to indigenous rap and provided us with hits like Kako Bi Chickenand Caro.

3. Olamide- Street OT

Olamide a.k.a Baddosneh has reinvented himself and his sound several times since he came on to the rap scene. However, no album is more representative of the rapper’s lyricism and hit-making potential that Street OT. Noteworthy songs include Goons Mi, Falila Ketan and Story for the Gods.

4. Dagrin- CEO

The pioneer of Yoruba rap, the late Dagrin, left an indelible mark on Nigerian hip-hop during his lifetime. His most celebrated album, CEO (Chief Executive Omoita) is definitely a Nigerian classic with songs like Kondo, Pon Pon Pon and Ghetto Dreams.

5. Phyno- No Guts No Glory

Phyno brought some much-needed Igbo flavour to the Indigenous rap game as he burst onto the scene. His debut studio album, No Guts No Glory cemented him as one of the most well-respected rappers in the country. From the epic Ghostmode (featuring Olamide) to Alobam, No Guts No Glory was full of timeless hits.
